How our band got together.
KP got a puppy named Loki during COVID-19 and started visiting the Del Mar Shores dog park as part of the morning rituals. Greg was there with a Golden Retriever named Hunter, and the dogs started to play together.
They talked about music as KP and Greg killed time while their puppies played. KP played drums, and Greg played guitar. KP was playing with a couple of guys already in his garage regularly and invited Greg offered to play bass. The guys played well together but had some artistic differences with some other players.
KP started to recruit from BandMix and would invite guys to the garage to play. Some of them were better than others, but Greg was looking for some specifics like they had to be able to speak in notes and chords (not just, “If you hum a few bars, I can play anything).
We found Pete first; a bass player from Oceanside. He was a pleasant enough guy who played with proficiency and had a lot of experience with other bands. He also had experience in production. He came back and forth for awhile – he’s a busy guy – and finally decided he wanted to stick around.
We found Ryan after Pete. He was singing backup in another band, and we could see he had more promise than that band had recognized. We invited him to an audition and by the end of the session we we ready to offer him the lead vocal spot.
We started working on a playlist, and it took forever to settle on songs. We kept changing and dropping songs we worked on because they were just too this or that. Some of the songs needed a second guitar, so we started auditioning, just to see what we could find. We ran into Tony DeLillis via BandMix (again), and found he was a nice compliment to Greg’s sound. We invited him to be. full rime member after our third session together.
Today, we have a pretty good sense of where we’re going – a rocky-kinda-funk and playlist that seems to resonate with our audiences.
